If you’ve been following my updates to this post you’ll know that I’ve spent most of my birding time over the past month watching the family of snowy plovers near the mouth of Carpinteria Creek. The eggs have hatched, the female bird has departed, and the male bird and the three chicks are still going strong a week and a half after hatching. In our next Carpinteria Birdwatchers meeting I’ll share the latest news about the historic nesting attempt, and will also share about a new nature festival, the Carpinteria Living Shoreline Festival, that is being planned for March 25-27, 2022.
The meeting will take place via Zoom and YouTube livestream next Thursday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Thank you for a wonderful meeting on the Snowy Plovers. What a great experience it must have been going through all the various stages with them!
Hopefully, they will return here again and will nest on other safer shores.
Hello my friend. What a beautiful bird. Pamala
Great meeting, John! Very informative, and I appreciate all the amazing photos! My sisters and I have visited the snowy plovers a few times now… they are so much fun to observe!
We are looking forward to getting together for outings once again!
