Update: You can see the birds we saw (including some lovely photos by Sue Cook) in our eBird checklist.
For this month’s outing we have a special treat: Carpinteria Birdwatchers members Sally and Chris Van Der Kar have invited us to join them at their Carpinteria ranch! We’ll have a chance to see their feeders, bird their ranch property, and walk down the hill to Lake Jocelyn, one of the best spots in Carpinteria for wintering freshwater ducks and geese. The outing will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. Hope to see you there!
- Location: Van Der Kar ranch, 6800 Rincon Road, Carpinteria
- Date/time: Saturday, March 22, 2025, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
- Details: From the 101 freeway, take the Casitas Pass/150 offramp and head inland along Rincon Road. At the row of mailboxes just across from the intersection with Rincon Hill Road, turn left and drive north along the private road. When the road turns left continue straight, eventually turning left under the archway by the barn. Someone will be on-site to direct you to the best spot for parking. (See maps below.)
As always, Carpinteria Birdwatchers outings are free and open to all ages and ability levels.

I WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND THE BIRD OUTING ON #/22.
That’s great, Dennis. We’re happy to have you. You can just show up following the directions above. If you have any questions or need more information you can email us at [email protected]. See you tomorrow!
