Birding Gear in 2025 + Bushtit: Carpinteria Birdwatchers meeting for August 21, 2025

Join us on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. for the next Carpinteria Birdwatchers meeting. This month, we’ll cover two topics: a comprehensive overview of birding gear options in 2025 and a deep dive into the charming Bushtit.

Please note: This meeting will be online only via Zoom; we will not be meeting at the Carpinteria Library this month.

We’ll start by exploring the current state of birding equipment, from binoculars and field guides (both apps and printed) to more specialized tools like cameras and reference guides. The goal will be to review and share current best practices with an emphasis on helping birdwatchers at any experience level and with any given budget make the most of their birding.

Then we’ll shift focus to the one of my favorite local species: the Bushtit! We’ll cover fascinating facts about their tiny size, complex flocking behavior, and unique nesting habits.
