Join us on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. as Carpinteria Birdwatchers meetings return! This month, we’ll take a close look at vireos — an easily overlooked family that rewards birders who know where and when to look.
We’ll start with the three species you can reliably find in Santa Barbara County: Hutton’s Vireo, Western Warbling Vireo, and Cassin’s Vireo. For each, we’ll cover where they turn up, what time of year to expect them, and how to pick them out from the look-alikes they keep company with. Then we’ll turn to the fun part: six more vireo species that show up in the county as rarities, the kind of birds worth chasing after if you’re lucky enough to get the chance.
This meeting will be in person at the Carpinteria Veterans Memorial Building, 941 Walnut Ave., around the corner from our usual spot at the library, and online via Zoom. We’ll be in the main hall. The Veterans Building is where Carpinteria Birdwatchers got its start — our very first meetings were held there back in 2017 — so it feels right to be back. Hope to see you there!
